In the News: Bridge Innovate workshops offer design thinking tools, corporate innovation talk

An upcoming workshop aims to help area residents find new problem-solving tools that could benefit their businesses or organizations.

Chattanooga’s Bridge Innovate is hosting two summer workshops, at which participants can learn about design thinking, which is a creative problem-solving approach that challenges assumptions and aims to understand users.

Companies such as Coca-Cola, IBM and Capital One have used design thinking, and in the upcoming workshops, attendees can learn how it could help them recruit and retain employees or how salespeople can better connect with prospective clients, for example.

“Almost any business in any industry can use design thinking to better connect with their employees or better connect with their customers,” Bridge Innovate Client Engagement Manager Matt Pulford said.

Bridge Innovate is calling the workshops Innovation Test Drives, which are slated for June 8 and July 24 from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. The events include lunch and the cost to register is $15.

Participants will also learn new storyboarding techniques and will hear from Shaw Industry’s Allie Robertson, who will speak about corporate innovation.

“Creating an environment where curiosity and experimentation are readily channeled into solving key business challenges is top of mind for Shaw Industries’ leaders as we keep pace with the speed of the rapidly evolving flooring market,” she said in a prepared statement. “Like many other companies, we recognize that building our associates’ leadership and innovation capabilities to innovate is crucial to our continued success.”

Attendees will also get to experiment with a platform called Sprintbase, which allows teams to host design sprints with employees who work remotely.

There will also be an opportunity to test drive ExperienceInnovation Aware, which is a 90-minute thinking workshop that usually costs $250.

“We want to help organizations unlock creative confidence with their employees,” Bridge Innovate CEO Jenny Whitener said in a prepared statement. “Imagine having a team of creative problem solvers. Think of the human-centered services that would be available in our city. Exploring and testing these latest design thinking tools will help businesses mobilize innovation capability.”
